Total Solar Eclipse Tour

Join ECLIPSE author Bryan Brewer for a once-in-a-lifetime 15-day Australia tour and solar eclipse adventure in the Outback.  Tour highlights include Sydney city sights, a stay at a national park lodge on Tasmania, an outback retreat under the stars with Aboriginal guides for the eclipse, and a visit to Ayers Rock (Uluru).

Itinerary Summary: Nov. 23 – Dec. 8, 2002.  Stops include: Sydney, Tasmania, Adelaide, Arkaroola, and Ayers Rock. Itinerary Details.

Accommodations: We will stay at  3-star hotels in Sydney and Adelaide as well as several unique locations, including three nights at a fabulous mountain lodge in Tasmania, four nights at a Wildnerness retreat center in South Australia near the path of the eclipse, and a night at a luxury hotel near Ayers Rock.  Numerous meals are also included in the cost of the tour.  Itinerary Details.

Total solar eclipse: This eclipse ends at sunset in Australia, and we will view the eclipse from a specially selected site in the Flinders mountain range to maximize our view of approximately 30 seconds of totality just before sunset. Although the duration of totality is short, the chance for an especially dramatic view of the eclipsed Sun near the horizon -- with excellent prospects for clear skies in this area at this time of year -- is an incredible opportunity not to be missed.

Tour Guides: Bryan Brewer, author of ECLIPSE and experienced eclipse tour leader, will prepare and guide the group in the experience of the eclipse.  At Arkaroola, Professor Vic Gostin will tell the fascinating story of his discovery of nearby Lake Acraman,  the site of the world's second largest known meteor strike, and Olga Gostin will discuss Aboriginal heritage and culture.  We will also have the chance to meet with members of the nearby Nepabunna Aboriginal tribe and discuss their traditions relating to the sky and to eclipses.  In addition, an Australia-based tour conductor will accompany the group for the entire trip to take care of logistical details.

Price: Land cost is $3490 per person based on double occupancy.  Single supplement is $675.  Air fare to and from Australia and air fare for flights within Australia are additional.  (Call for air fare estimates.)  All prices are in U.S. dollars.
