Partial Lunar Eclipse

1997 Mar 24 -- Partial Lunar Eclipse

On the evening of Palm Sunday, March 23, 1997 (and extending into the early morning of March 24th in eastward locations), observers in North and South America, Europe, and Africa witnessed a 92% partial lunar eclipse. Some part of the full Moon was covered by the umbra for 3 hours and 23 minutes, with the maximum eclipse occurring at 11:39 pm EST (8:39 pm PST). Observers in Europe and Africa missed the final stages of the eclipse as the Moon sets near sunrise. Weather in much of North America was favorable for good viewing.
